Senator Honeyford has been a member of Washington’s Legislative Leadership for an extended period of time; serving as Republican Deputy Floor Leader (2015, 2013-14, 2011-12, 2009-10) Republican Caucus Chair (2005-06), Majority Caucus Chair (2004) and Republican Whip (2001-02). Senator Honeyford has held elected office in the House for two terms starting in ’94, and then 5 terms in the Senate going back to ’98. He participates in many special committees, including the Joint Legislative Committee on Water Supply during Drought, the State Capitol Furnishings and Preservation Committee, the Pacific Northwest Economic Region, the Co-Chair Heritage Caucus, and the Law Enforcement Officers’ and Fire Fighters’ Plan 2 Retirement Board, with former special committee service on the Joint Legislative-Executive Columbia River Partnership. Senator Honeyford is a recent Alumnus of the Year Award (2014) winner from Central Washington University, where he received 2 BA’s in Sociology and Education, and then later a Master’s in Education in Instructional Media. In the past, Honeyford served as a Policeman for the City of Ellensburg, while also later on being a teacher, librarian and a farmer. Senator Honeyford was born in Ontario, Oregon, but moved to Sunnyside in 1956; He and his wife, Jerri, are the parents of four grown children.
