Executive Director
George Caan has served as the executive director of the Washington Public Utility Districts Association since March of 2011. He serves as the professional leader and chief administrator of the 75-year-old trade association that represents 26 public utility districts across the state as well as Energy Northwest, a joint operating agency. Prior to joining the association, Mr. Caan served for 15 years as the executive director of the Colorado River Commission of Nevada the state agency responsible for Nevada’s allocation of water and hydropower from the Colorado River. In addition to his responsibility as the state’s representative on Colorado River issues Mr. Caan also managed an electrical utility system serving wholesale and industrial customers with a load approaching 750 megawatts. Prior to his Nevada position, Mr. Caan worked as the deputy director of the Washington State Energy Office. His final duty at WSEO was to oversee the closure of the office and disposition of energy functions to other agencies arising out of state legislation. Mr. Caan graduated in 1980 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He received a Master of Business Administration from Northeastern University in 1985. Mr. Caan is a registered professional mechanical engineer in the states of Nevada and Washington. He has been an active educator and speaker in numerous professional and academic forums.
