State Veterinarian
Dr. Bill Barton serves as the administrator of the Division of Animal Industries and state veterinarian for the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA). Bill was raised on his family’s cattle ranch, the Diamond A, in the Three Creek area of southern Idaho and northern Nevada. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1985 with a Bachelor’s Degree in animal science and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University in 1989.

Barton was a co-owner of Donnelly Veterinary Hospital, a mixed animal practice in beautiful Valley County, Idaho until 2005. After selling the practice, Barton joined the ISDA in 2006. His professional memberships include the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association, the United States Animal Health Association, the National Assembly of State Animal Health Officials, and the National Institute for Animal Agriculture. He is a past-president of the Western States Livestock Health Association; the Payette River Cattleman’s Association and is a board member of the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Barton is the very proud father of a son, Taylor, a law student at the University of Idaho College of Law and a daughter, Natalie, a recent graduate with a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Idaho. Go Vandals!!! In his free-time, Bill enjoys entertaining with his band at venues around the state.
